the shares that he already has therefore the additional gain (if the stock appreciates) is negligital (compare with the gain from the millions of shares that he alrready has).

However, if his purchase fooled average investors and boost the stock up by 10, 20%, that would give him time/space to sell more shares than he purchased.....

Just my speculation ....
