You need to check your insurance. Do you have water damage coverage? This is would be your only bet to recoup the loss.
You also need to check you lease for terms for occupation of the property. In my lease, I have clause for moving within 5 days. Also check the untility clause. Does that clause covers the power on in extreme condition like freezing weather?
If your lease covers all those, you should act based on the lease. If not, you are out of luck.
I have one case like that last year. My insurance has water damage coverage (much more expensive). I got insurance payment for $20k.
