Time span and goals.

It depends on the investment goals to achieve and time span we need. If we want to invest for 10 years or longer, we may want to put our money in Buffer's basket and forget it. You can easily see that during the time between 1990 and now, FIDYX only returned 200% for 18 years, while Buffer returned 1400%.

If we only want to maximize annual gain for each year, Buffet style may not be a good way to invest. We all know that there are many good fund managers with over 40% in some years, but not for the long run. For those funds, we need to time the market, sell the fund when it is high, buy back when it is low. For example, the FIDYX bottomed 2002-2003, if you picked it in 2003, you are having a better return (about 20% or so?) than Buffet's, but you need timing.
