Schwab, crypto, alleged fraud and an elderly couple's $18.5M loss

 

In July of this year, Lawrence Liu saw a pop-up warning appear on his computer telling him his Schwab accounts were under attack.

Liu was provided with a phone number ostensibly for a Schwab employee who could help him protect his assets. The scammer advised Liu to move his and his wife's assets to other institutions for safekeeping.

在处理钱财和其他重要信息时永远不要用对方，特别是陌生人，提供的电话号码，先挂断电话。不要回拨电话，即使电话号码与官方号码看起来是一样的。来电显示的电话号码，有可能不是真正的链接电话。用银行卡上的号码拨打给银行，或用劵商交易平台上官方电话号码打给券商。银行等公司有系统纪录所有的电话联系活动。很容易验证你原先收到的电话是真是假。
