In that case, you need to prepare the pipe

a little bit to get into a turn with a bigger radius of curvature... after that the flattened section will be easier to work wth.

If you don't have much confidence, then forget about spend money on the tools, just use a regular channel lock plyer... If you break the pipe, then call the HVAC guy..
