First of all, I got to say this first, Marriott got the most confusing and weird names for their credit cards. Lol.

Marriott cards can simply be broken down into 2 branches, AMEX vs Chase, it was because when Marriott merged with Starwood, AMEX got the rights for Starwood CC, while Chase retained the rights to Marriott cards.

Last year, Chase had a huge promotion for their Boundless card, which was the 5 FN promotion and Chase repeated the same promotion this year for a brief period of 3 weeks, this promotion was the highest ever for any Marriott cards, so lots of people jumped on it.

The promotion also was because Chase retained the rights to continue their rights to low to mid-tier Marriott cards and introduced another new card called Bountiful, this card is also called The Marriott pitiful card, as it is completely not worth the $250 annual goes with it.

anyway, at the same time, AMEX also retained their rights to the high-end card called Brilliant card, which now comes with automatic Marriott Platinum, this is a huge jump in benefits, well worth its $650 annual fees.

The AMEX Brilliant, with an annual fee of $650, used to come with $300 statement credits for any Marriott charges, but the new benefit is a $300 food credit ($25/month), so technically it's only $350 in real costs, while the card gives you automatic Marriott Platinum, thus you get check-in upgrades and free breakfast for 2, so if you ever stay with Marriott more than 10 days a year, you get your money worth, plus the card will also give you 1 FN worth 85k points on renewal.

AMEX also introduced a new mid-tier card called Bevy, weird name as it is, and everyone it's a joke, $250 a year with virtually no benefits.

Anyway, AMEX this month is stepping up on their new card opening promotion, the Bevy gets $125k points + additional 50k points if you do 6 paid nights on Marriott, and the Brilliant is offering 150k + 50k, so yes these are historically high card opening offers.

but the catch is if you opened the Chase Bountiful, you can't get any AMEX cards for 24 months!!!
