Employee vs. Independent Contractor

If you just hire handyman or amigo off the street, when he has no license or any qualification, sometimes he's considered your employee, and you are liable for his negligence (for example, when he hit someone driving his car when he was transporting supplies to your work site).

The safest way is to hire someone with a license, any license.  My Chinese handyman has a general home improvement license, that's enough, as long as I can show he's in the business of being a contractor.
