if there were ways getting all the money back, including selling, there would not have been financial crisis.

Theoretically, after you buy the property, or any kind of merchandise, there will be a depreciation. This is normal, and supposed to be, but unfortunately, people are always dreaming the house price will increase after each transaction. This is the true reason of financial crisis.
