If you have investable asset of $5M, based on S&P500 return of 20% in 2017, the asset should generate $1M income.  There are some of people with return more than 30% to 40% by taking on more risk last year, then you only need $2M to $3M asset to generate $1M income.  If you are the brave and lucky one who happens to invest $50k of GBTC @ around $116 on 1/1/2017, then by 12/31/2017, you will make $1M.
