lost first batch to neighbor's stray dog;
second batch in winter to hawks when leaf coverage is gone;
scared away a racoon in the chicken coop at midnight;
daytime run is covered by 50' X 50' bird netting;
big roosters alway stay alert and help to protect the girls.

now they roam during the day and locked up at night. their night house is fort knox ...

when you raise a large flock, losing some is just part of life / cost of doing business.

if the bird survived all that, they have a chance to become dinner on the table :)
