they make money on extended warranty because hardly

being used - 95% of the time the extended warranty expired without being used.

I did not buy any warranty on that Seagate - it was only $95 incl tax - but the product is under manufacturer warranty, hence I called Seagate tech support.

I even filed a purchase protection claim with my Mastercard but since BBY refunded me the purchase price, I informed MC to drop the claim.
