香港油炸鬼（炸油条）

今日读得鲁冰花【童趣】佳作，內中提及炸油条。不期然想起油炸鬼来。在香港尝过不少油炸鬼。有几位港友就好意地取笑我，道：鬼仔好鍾意食油炸鬼哩！哈哈，教我如何不想油炸鬼？

据一己之见，油炸鬼这个港产名称，与地府阎王有关。阎王惩罚死后恶人的诸多酷刑之一，是“落油鑊”，即下油锅。对此刻画入微的是香港名胜“胡文府”外、警惕世人的十八层地狱壁画。

返回人间吧。在香港未进升为亚洲四小龙之前，一般劳苦大众早上都惯吃白粥及油炸鬼。街头巷尾，篷下或露天，皆可得之。顺便说一下，吾国唐人街即中国城或华埠出品的所谓油炸鬼，实在不行。个见。

吾国也有土产的油炸鬼，形状跟港产的不同，名曰 fried dough 是也。在《愤怒的葡萄》（The Grapes of Wrath）一书里，美式油炸鬼不时出现，反映在廿世纪三十年代经济大衰退期间、受损害更受侮辱的失地贫农的种种艰辛。可以想像、当时的美式油炸鬼是和泪而吞的。

结尾不妨自夸一下：俺吃尽油炸鬼，也做不成老油条。
