Useful Idiots

Useful Idiots have never been in short supply. History proves that. 

 

Bertrand Russell and George Bernard Shaw, for example, were disillusioned with Western democracy in view of the devastating First World War. They turned to autocracy as a viable alternative, however. 

 

Russell had more than a kind word about Soviet Russia and militaristic Japan. Shaw even went so far as to praise Nazi Germany for its discipline and efficiency. Both enjoyed being the Bolsheviks' fellow travelers. Western democracy be damned. 

 

Russell and Shaw lived to regret their poor choices once the Rape of Nanjing, the Holocaust, and the Soviet Gulags became public knowledge. 

 

Who would like to stand on the shoulders of "giants" otherwise known as useful idiots?
