Game observations: Magics vs Cavs game 5

It was a winnable game for Magics. I would blame this loss on coach Stan.

Cavs started very hot. Mo finally showed some life in this series. Magics started to go inside, D.H killed them inside, multiple 2+1. At half time, Magics were only down 1.

In the third quarter, Magics got 8 points lead. After that, a couple bad shots and TOs by Alston. The momentum was shifted. It was still very close game. In the 4th quarter, Gibson hit back to back 3s and Mo hit one 3s. LBJ hit a few jumpers. The game started to shift away from Magics. D.H got 6th foul and fouled out the game around 3 minutes last. Cavs managed to take this win.

1. Alston pretty much killed Magic single-handedly. He wasn't shooing well, but he still jacked up a bunch questionable shots. As PG, he was terrible to organize the offense. He committed multiple terrible turn overs, basically he was momentum killer. At defensive end, he left shooter wide open. A few stupid touch foul at wrong time. I said before, Alston has very low basketball IQ. He doesn't understand what is going on in the game.

2. Cavs put LBJ on Turkoglu. Because Cavs were killed on high screen plays. Big Z is too slow to rotate, either D.H has a dunk or Turkoglu was left wide open 3s. LBJ fought screen well and stayed in front of Turkoglu. That was very good adjustment by Mike Brown's coaching staff. In this defensive scheme, everyone on Cavs stayed with their man, so no wide open shooters. This was why I blame coach Stan. He would have let his guys know that pass the ball inside, that was working in the first half. By throwing the ball down-low, no on could cover D.H one on one. That would be either easy basket for D.H or someone on Cavs would have to rotate to help. That would open up for the shooters outside. Unfortunately, Coach Stan never made this adjustment and told his guys to go inside. Alston just jacked up bricks. Turkoglu did too much one on one to try to shake away LBJ without any successful effort. I thought that was great adjustment from Cavs. Unfortunately neither Magic coaching staff nor players did recognize the change and made any effective counter-move.

3. Gibson is the X factor. He shot lights out tonight. His back to back 3s in the 4th quarter was game change shots. That bought Cavs extra day. Turkoglu was on Gibson, but Turkoglu was too slow to close him out. he had pretty good look at 3pt line. After Gibson make a couple of 3s, I would have put Courtney on him than Turkoglu to close him out better if I was Coach Stan.

4. LBJ. In the first half, he was decoy to get other guys going. In the 4th quarter, he was the closer. He seemed tired, but he managed to make a few jumpers and multiple 2+1. I give his credit where the credit is due. LBJ is great player. He did what he has to do to help the team to survive one more day. Pietrus did good job on LBJ. If I was coach Stan, I would put Turkoglu on LBJ to give him a bit different look. LBJ seemed tired, so extra length would have bothered him a bit when LBJ took those jumpers.

5. Tough shooting night for Magics. Lewis, Turkoglu, Courtney, Alston all have tough shooting night. The jump shooting team is like that. Some night they are hot, some night they are cold. But I don't think their off-shooting was the reason Magics lost. They could have exploited D.H in the middle which was very effective.

6. Some questionable calls. The clear path on Alston is BS. Alston was in front of LBJ. LBJ is a great player, no doubt about it. As long as he gets these kind of "special ridiculous calls", I would never be his fan. As great as he is, he needs to earn his respect than handed over by the reps. The TNT, ESPN analysis makes me sick. It is too much to make LBJ look like a god. We, as fans, are not stupid. We don't need this stupid brain wash.

Well, Cavs dodged the bullet tonight. They bought extra day to breathe. Magics need to watch the film to understand what went wrong.

Looking forward to tomorrow's lakers vs nuggets. This is the real basketball season, playoff, man.
