【共同社8月24日电】在东京残奥会开幕式前,担任残奥会名誉总裁的日本天皇24日下午在皇宫宫殿会见国际残奥委会(IPC)主席帕森斯等相关人士。天皇用英语表示“希望各位运动员能在健康状态下安心投入比赛,发挥最好水平”,期待采取万全的防疫对策。
天皇介绍了从曾见证1964年东京残奥会的上皇夫妇听闻的一些事,以及自己作为皇太子在1998年长野冬季残奥会时和皇后一起观赛并深受感动。关于新冠疫情下的此次大赛运营,天皇提及残奥选手的重症化风险,称“我想这将是不同于奥运会的困难,对各位相关人士的尽力深表敬意”。
帕森斯表示:“为了实现对所有人而言安全的大赛,在这里将竭尽全力。”
国际残奥委员会(IPC)和东京奥运会和残奥会组委会24日在东京有明的主新闻中心(MPC)召开记者会,国际残奥会发言人斯宾塞表示:此次残奥会将有161个国家和地区及难民选手队的4,403名运动员参赛,史上最多。
