I have been on the fire-McHale bandwaong for too long. Finally, it happened.
Now the players don't have any more excuses. Time for them to show up on court as well.
More than often, head coach may not be the only reason for a slump, but if players are not responding to him, even without playing style or strategy change, simply removing the coach will do good for the team.
McHale is a decent and honest guy, but I always felt he's better suited as team manager rather than head coach. Nowadays, you have to be a very savvy detail oriented mentor and decision maker if you want to do well as a head coach in any professional sports.
It's information age, and it's a players' league, the old fashioned "playing harder" no-nonsense tough guy won't cut it any more.
Wish McHale all the best. After all, we did play in WCF last year.
I wanted Rick Carlisle last season, but he signed an extension with Marvs, and Rockets gave McHale a 3-year, inevitable after reaching the WCF.
I like JVG, a lot, but he can't be the next head coach, after he alienated the whole league officials and all referees with his often critical commentator job on TV. Relationship matters.
I like Thibs, a lot, but I am afraid whether current Rockets roster can handle his super hard practice and playing style.
I am sure with the above 2, Rockets defense will see night and day changes, but offense might suffer.
I kind of respect OMG-sky-is-falling-let's-panic-SVG, but I am not sure with Dwight onboard, whether either of them wants to get into a room together again.
That being said, any of the above, would be an upgrade to McHale.
