I don't see any problem in your case. You did so far so good.

Taking initiatves for the benetfit of the company is a good quality of star employees. Most company encourage it thought I don't know the details of your actions. I don't think your manager has done any harm to you yet. Can you see his behavour in a positive way? Such as a challenge to prepare you better in your career development?
I beleive u already know the importence of communication between you two.
