The key is whether you have registered or not

If you have not registered your lens, you could give a copy of the receipt to the buyer and ask them to claim the lens was a gift from you.

If you have registered the lens, you tell the buyer you are willing to send the lens in for warranty service if they encounter a problem within 5 years, if they pay S&H fees.
