Canon 24-70mm f/2.8

price says as well: one is about $300, the other is over $1000.

24-70 is more flexible. 85mm f/1.8 is good, but too inflexible, thus limiting what you can do. But the conditions happens to suit the 85mm lens, I think 85mm f/1.8 can do a better job (but most conditions will suit 24-70mm better).
