It is just under $800 at sigma4less.com, with tripod mount included. I do not know about the 80-200mm, but this sigma is a very good lens: sharp and fast focus. Compared with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, it does not have VR. But this should not be a big issue for action shots.
