that said, if you don't want to spend that kind of money, you can go Keh.com to get a second hand 35-70mm F2.8, equally good for indoor shots, but only for less than $400
I have some very sucessful 35-70mm indoor kids shots, I shot at F2.8, added a touch of flash and sometimes increase the ISO to 400, very beautiful ambient light, I don't have the sample here at work, if you like to see, I can show you later when I get home.
