By default, Amazon does not segregate FBA inventory by seller—even Amazon’s own stock can be pooled together with third-party sellers’ units for the same product. This is known as “commingled inventory,” where items sharing the same UPC/EAN/ISBN (or ASIN) are mixed in Amazon’s fulfillment centers and picked interchangeably when orders are placed .
Amazon’s first-party (1P) vendor inventory—marked “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com”—is managed separately through Vendor Central and isn’t part of the FBA commingling pool. However, any inventory (even Amazon’s) that enters FBA under manufacturer barcodes (i.e. stickerless, commingled inventory) will be mixed with identical items from other sellers . Sellers who opt out of commingling by applying Amazon-issued FNSKU labels instead of using the manufacturer barcode keep their units in dedicated, non-commingled bins.
Because of commingling, you can end up receiving a counterfeit unit from another seller’s batch—even if a listing shows “Sold by Amazon.com.” Fake products slip in when pooled stock isn’t uniquely labeled, and Amazon’s system can’t distinguish which merchant originally supplied that particular unit .
