28-135mm translates to 45-216mm on 35mm film equivalant. It is an inexpensive lens with "IS". The question you need to ask yourself is: what is your overall plan for lenses? This lens is not particularly wide, and not particularly long, so it is too long for indoor group photos, and probably too short for kids sports, but may be fine as a walk around lens.
