Is this a good suggestion?

I intend to buy a Digital SLR Camera. I originally thinking about Nikon 7100D 18-300mm. 

I spoke my cousin today. He is strongly against me to buy Nikon. He suggested me to buy Canon 60D body and a 24-70mm f/2.8L lens.  Is this a good suggestion?
