You must be from Chicago area. I've never had a chance to hear his speech. I did, however, have the opportunity of emailing with Bruce Cumings a year or so ago. Maybe I shouldn't say he is critical of Jon Halliday; he disagrees with Halliday's view in the Mao book.
The book he co authored with Halliday is "Korea, the Unknown War"
Prof Cumings, an scholar on Korea and contemporary East Asia, is also a good friend of Andrew Nathan of Columbia Univ.
