rejected is not canceled

When we say cancel the check, it means you notify the bank that the check is canceled. So the bank would not pay the check even if there is enough funds in your account. However, a rejected check usually means, you want to pay the check, but somehow there is not enough funds in your account.

However, since you have the receipt of the company, indicating you have already paid $5000 in cash, it should be OK for you.
