This case is completely irrevelant to whether the law is for the rich or for the poor. Child's interest is highly protected in this country. You may feel it was not a big deal for leaving the child alone for a short period of time. But anything can happen during that period of time. Many parents ended up losing their children when they left them alone inside the car, thinking they would come back just in a minute.

When you decide to live in this country, you have to comply with its law. Of course the law is not always for justice, but justice is never stupid.

Lawyers don't have a good name in US, but they are not as bad as you have imagined. Although many of them are money hunters, there are also numerous lawyers doing pro bono for the poor, even with thousands of dollars debt they owed during their studies in law school.

In this case, I don't think it makes any sense to appeal. The couple should feel lucky that the court didn't decide to take the child away from them. Learn the lesson!
