Please also think about the owner of the brand new Porsche. He is injured, and his car suffered extensive damages. If he has to pay everything by himself, would it be fair?

I don’t know whether you can negotiate with him and his insurance company so that part of the fault is put on him and his insurance company picks up the remaining repair cost. He can sue you in the court. But I don’t think he can take away your primary residence. For $13K, it’s not worth to file bankruptcy. In the worst case, you may have to make an arrangement to pay him the $13K over a period of several years.

Learn the lesson and buy more liability insurance in the future. Don’t try to save pennies in this area.
