To help the 2003 tax return, I opened and IRA account in Fidelity and put $3000 into it. When filing the application form, I was asked to choose which year to contribute this sum of money, of course I picked 2003. But now it turns out that Fidelity refuses to send me the tax form before the deadline because"your IRA was opened this year and a current year deposit was made into this account",so "you will receive a 5498 next year for any contributions made in 2004." Besides, they could send me the tax form for 2003 tax return only if I could send another sum of money to the IRA account. But in this case, the form will not come until May.
I've read IRS relevant articles and learned a lot in this website. I know a deposit to IRA earlier than April 15th can contribute to last year's tax return. I think Fidelity should known better than me
Now I'm feeling totally being cheated. Without the $3000 deductible IRA, our family's tax will fall into a higher tax bracket. So I really need to get the tax form. Could anybody here give me any suggestions? Your kindness would be very appreciated!
