Joint account default question

I had a joint account as a dependent card holder in 2000 and then the card expired and I never received a new card, plus we broke up in 2001. after that he had been using it until 2005 and went default.
now a collector called me saying I am the sole card holder and should pay off the balance.

what should I do?
