Custody and Child Support

My boyfriend and I just brokeup, but we have an infant. He doesn't want the custody as he said he didn't want the baby to ruin his life, so basically I should have no problm to get the custody.

As we are not married, can I ask him to pay the child support as people divorced? Is there any differences?

We are both H1B holders, and in different states currently, I am in GA, he is in WA, which state law should we follow? Do we have to find a lawyer to solve the child support? If we want to do it by ourselves, what is the process? I am very new to US.
