please with f1 to h1 tax

Hu*****and transfered f1 to h1 in October, and wife is f1 for whole year. I read from pub. 519, first year residency choice, hu*****and can count days in 2006 to meet 183 days for 2005. If till 4/15/06 days still can't meet 183, they can file extention to meet it. Then they can file jointly as RA for 2005. Is that true? Thanks a lot for any help.
