请教：纽约州交通事故，需上法庭

我在高速路出口的ramp上，没能减速好，车子有些失控，撞倒了路边上的两个带反光的pole。给警察打电话，警察说要扣分，给ticket，还需要上交通法庭。我从来没有遇到过这种事情，就问他上法庭都是什么样的，警察说要问我认罪还是不认罪，他建议我不认罪。

请教各位，在纽约州，怎么处理这种事情呢？有什么法律规定呢？

顺带问一下，因公出差遇到这样的交通事故，单位（我在大学）会有什么补偿吗？
