Hi 老貓,
I reside in California. I recently discovered an old paycheck from my former employer Company A (in CA). I am aware of the concept of statute of limitations. But since it is over $1000, I decided to give it a try. Company A was acquired by Company B. So I contacted Company B headquartered in MA. Per the request of their Payroll Dept., I sent them a copy of the original paycheck. They later got back to me and refer me to California State Controller Office for unclaimed fund. My inquiry to the Office discovered that the old paycheck was never escheated. I contacted Company B again, but never hear back from them. My question is: If the fund is never escheated, do I have any legal ground to ask for the money back from Company B? Thank you very much for your time!
P.S. I alway enjoy reading your ethical, witty, and sensible advices :)
