美国宪法的这四大要素，被认为是支撑西方社会自由民主的支柱，是作为一个有尊严的人而存在的必需的精神层面。其中freedom from want 延伸引意为：人民有不受贫穷的权利。所以可以理解美国政府每年都大笔花钱在社会福利上，而美国的富人和穷人，理论上，宪法保障精神层面是平等的。
