While wildfires have always been a part of life in California, the state has 78 more fire days per year than it had 50 years ago, said Deborah Brosnan, a marine and climate scientist who owns an environmental consulting firm in Washington.
 
“California’s ecosystems evolved with fire,” Brosnan said. “What is needed now is for its inhabitants to adapt to the new reality and focus fast on resilience.”
