【原创】几种常见比目鱼的英文名称（图）

用来表示比目鱼（flatfish）的英文词很多，如flounder、sole、turbot、plaice和halibut。这些重要的食用鱼类（food fish）大小和形状各异。下面简要予以说明。
Brill：
长度约半米、重量约6斤。
Dab：
长度约30厘米、重量约2斤。
Flounder：
词根和plat同源，指平的。
Halibut：
名称中haly表示holy；but表示butte（平鱼），即指其经常在holiday期间食用。重量通常约30斤；长度最大可达2.5米。
Megrim：
词根可能来自hemicrania，意为偏头疼，指其头部不对称。长度约60厘米。
Plaice：
词根可能和plat相同，表示flat。长度可达一米。
Sole：
词根本义是草鞋（sandal），指其形状。Sole也指脚底或鞋底。
Tonguefish：
如名所示，尺寸及形状与舌头类似。是最小的食用（edible）比目鱼。
Turbot：
与turbo同源，本指陀螺。也有人认为bot和halibut中的but同源，指平鱼。
