laptop keyboard help, urgent!!

There is something wrong with my laptop. when I type something, sometime there is no response, sometime a "-" symbol appears. At other time, even I didn't type anything, it will give me something like '----------------\hg---'. Do anybody know what happened to my computer? By the way,I reinstalled the system twice. Is it keyboard problem? Many thanks in advance.
