And if I were you, I would not hesitate to tell him that, my immediate career next step is to become a manager. I think I am ready for it. Based on past conversations I am also made believe that, he thinks I am ready for it. So if it's not achievable in his group in the near term, I would appreciate him telling me.

你和他谈的时候，把他直接当成你的支持者，让他帮你出谋划策，你们是一个战壕里的，一起去争取这个目标。别把语气说成你们是对立方，你跟他提要求讨东西。
