After one year I came to US, a roommate graduated and was moving to California. The night before he left, we had dinner in Chinatown. He looked at the waiters and waitresses, and said the following, which I think is good:

We Chinese should never give up hope because we always have a bright future here. At least we could go to work in a Chinese restaraunt as a waiter/waitress, or a dilivery guy. And we could make at least $2,000 ~ 3,000 in cash, tax free. Compared with most people here, this is already a lot of money.

I would say, at the end, you can at least do this if you don't find anything you like. So really no need to worry. You can still have a quality of life.
