consistant overtime needs to be compensated one way or another.
If it burns you out or impact your family, say so to your boss. I assume you are in US. If you do not speak out your mind, your boss may assume you have no problem. If it really burns you out, you have to let your boss know, because it is not sustainable in the long run anyway. If it's really ridiculously overloaded, ask your boss if it's possible to get extra resources to help. communication, communication, anc communication...
But becareful what you say and how you say it. You have to craft your words to give your boss the impression that you want to help and you are willing to go extra miles to get job done, but you also need to balance work and family. A reasonable boss will understand and respect that. My impression is, your boss is reasonable since he/she did ask your opionion. A nasty boss will not even bother to ask you.
Or you can ask if it's possible to work from home after hour. The goal is to balance your family while still get the job done as much as possible.
