Software Engineer – Java
Palo Alto Networks is THE leading network security company. Our market is the network security market and consists of enterprises, government entities, and service providers. It is an $11Bn market globally. Our next-generation network security solutions safely enable applications, prevent threats, simplify network security infrastructure, and reduce costs. They do so at high speed and with great flexibility.
Responsibilities:
· Responsible for developing the next generation of cloud-based services to support our customers. This includes, but it is not limited to :
o Initially focused on web content categorization through our automatic classification engine
o Manually identify the categorization for the web sites
o Creating and enhancing tools to analyze large quantity of data
o Work closely with our researchers to enhance our machine learning based systems
o Work closely with Quality Assurance and Technical Support teams for debugging, trouble shooting
Requirements:
· Java programming experience, focused on server side development
· Software development experience in a Linux environment
· Hands on experience using heavily multi-threaded code. Experience with distributed systems a plus
· Familiarity with in Perl or Python (Python preferred),and the ability to quickly prototype tools to extract information from large data sets
· Previous experience with large data sets (TB) a big plus
· Experience with non-SQL DB, Mongo preferred, a big plus
· Experience with Hadoop/HBase is a big plus
· Strong analytical and communication skills
· Self-motivated and able to work on a dynamic environment
· Team player, can-do attitude and take initiative
Education:
· BS or higher degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Math or equivalent experience
