The recruiter who placed me at my former employer, used to be a vp and is very well-connected. She does consulting work most of the time, and only places candidates from time to time to make some quick money.
She sent my cv to an EVP of a $10B competitor locally. I believe my cv was circulated to the vps reporting to him. There has been no leads - not even a phone interview lead from this recuiter.
However, I was able to get interviews by simply applying thru the company's website. Then like average canadidates I jumped thru hoops and had no success in getting an offer.
Next time when I see an interesting opening, would going-thru the recuirter increase my chances or do the opposite? Thanks.
