negotiate about consultant rate for old company

I left my old company but would work for them partly as a consultant. Generally, what is the base rate? My current salary is not much different with the salary my old company paid me. But I feel it's not so fair to be paid just by the current base salary, without considering benefit. Can any one give me some suggestions.
