I would never make a decision solely based on salary.
I would choose a job that I feel passion about and I know I would enjoy,
a job that can build on my strengths and improve my weaknesses,
a job that deals with both people and numbers/documents,
a job in a promising industry and an expanding firm,
a job in a company that has the culture I fit and like,
a job in a company where my colleagues are professional, and my supervisor is an outstanding leader, so that I can learn from them,
a job that offers long-term benefits to my career advancement and fits my long-term career goal,
a job that is challenging but rewarding both financially and professionally,
a job at a place where I can find good Chinese and Japanese restaurants ...
This list can go on and on. Salary is only one of those things on the list I would concern.
Moreover, I can assure you two things:
I would never go to consulting business even if they offer $300k. It would drive me crazy if I have to travel 4 days a week, have meetings all day long, and work on PowerPoont all the time.
I would also never go to investment banking for a $300k. Most of jobs are too technical that I would not like at all.
I make my decision based on ..
