UC Davis vs. Texas

My LD has potential opportunity at UC Davis, and we are currently making $120k in Texas. The salary comparison index shows that we need to make $240k to maintain our current living standard in Texas.It's unbelieverable! Is it true? Moving to CA is always my dream, but it seems impossible... Any inputs are highly appreciated!
