offer negotiation

Hi, Friends

  Just got an email about offer with salary. May I ask you another $5000 more? Maybe it's not good time to ask. Many people take vacation now. I think HR need approve to incase salary. 

Which way is good to ask? By email or phone? Thanks in advance!
