Even the existence of the 80k offer is in question, let alone the alleged 120k one.

A salaried position of 80K supposed to be a professional job. As long as the guy didn't insult the management,  getting fired in the very 1st week is never heard of, as per my life experience. It is not a lay-off, which usually is planned way ahead of time, and by no means ad hoc.
