I agreed with you. 5 month cannot fully understand (at least can make through the daily life), I will say it is too slow.

One time, I have to pick up the system without anyone teach me, and there is 0 training. It took me 4 months to fully understand be able to hands on all server (I am talking about 7 different servers, including current existing network farm) plus I have to handle all the management tasks. Mine is an extreme case, I have no choice, but I will say 6 months you should definitely be able to start to contribute.
