seems that you wrote it on emotion, not in cool.
I am not clear on many things:
1) the old man is your peer or your boss's peer?
2) who is your team (I assume that your team is a leadership team) decision maker? the old man or your boss?

Any way, I assume that the old man is the PROJECT decision maker, not your leadership team leader. you received two contradictory orders from the old man and your team leader, respectively. I also assume that you have hard copies of these.

So what annoyed you? Just simply present facts, and
let facts speak for you:)
